From ICclopedia

Much like adding an degeneration resistor improves the output resistance of the bipolar mirror via negative feedback, we can employ the same technique for the MOS current mirror by adding resistive source degeneration to improve the output resistance of the original simple MOS current mirror. As before, the tradeoff for improved output resistance in this topology is paid for in lower output headroom or said otherwise poorer compliance voltage.
